Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Most of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at beating back depression. You should make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Some grains are actually great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling hungry can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know it can help improve your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
