Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood
Many of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at beating back depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try consuming a few eggs to cheer up!
Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.
Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can actually help to improve your mood. It’s not difficult to feel low when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
