Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at dealing with depression. You must be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel happier!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you want to feel better. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can truly make you feel awful! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
