Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try eating some eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Some grains are really great for driving away bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. It’s easy to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try several of these instead!
