Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you would like to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
